I see a few similarities and a few differences from my list. I have not read Catcher in the Rye but was planning to read it. Why do you have that as one you read but won't touch? Maybe I should avoid it.

The short answer to the Catcher in the Rye question is that if this book were a form of popular music it would be Emo. And I hate Emo!

Actually, it's been a long time since I read this book but it basically left me thinking, "What's the big deal?". Everyone seemed to rave about the book and I finished it thinking I couldn't care any less for the main character if I tried.

I'd probably have to re-read it so I could truly ananlyze what I didn't like about it, but the prospect of reading it again seems at the very least a waste of time.

My son has to read it for school and both my wife and I had to hold our tongues so as not to completely color his experience of it. I'll talk to him about it when he has finished it and see what he thought.
